Welcome

Hi, I’m Beverly Dix — A Health Literacy Advocate for Women

Bay Area-raised, endlessly curious, and deeply committed to helping women become stronger, live fully, and age with vitality, I created Journeys Toward Wellness to make health literacy for women simple, practical, and empowering.

With degrees in computer science and mathematics and more than 20 years of experience in healthcare information services, I’ve spent much of my life translating complex systems into clear, human-centered insight. Today, I bring that same skill to something deeply personal: helping women understand their bodies, make confident choices, and take charge of their well-being—naturally.

This site focuses on practical strategies to build health literacy, support long-term wellness, and prevent chronic disease.

Let me share how I got here.

My Turning Point: A Personal Wellness Awakening

At 33, I was already no stranger to chronic health issues. I had lived with eczema, seasonal allergies, and occasional asthma. But one evening, after eating a meal containing red food dye, I developed a violent, full-body rash that changed everything.

What followed was a nightmare.

For two years, my condition worsened despite every intervention I was given. I cycled through treatments—steroids, coal tar salves, UV light therapy, oatmeal baths, antihistamines, even sedatives just to sleep through the pain. Nothing worked.

I couldn’t wear clothes.
I couldn’t find answers.
And I couldn’t see a way forward.

The Shift Toward Health Literacy for Women

My breaking point became a turning point.

Something in me refused to accept that this was the end of the story. The explanations I’d been given weren’t enough. I was still deeply unwell—but I also knew I was capable of finding a better path.

With the analytical mindset shaped by my background—and the determination of someone who refused to give up—I began to dig deeper.

I immersed myself in research.

What I came to understand changed everything: inflammation and immune dysregulation were not random. They were patterns—signals that could be understood and supported.

This was the beginning of my wellness awakening—and my realization that I could help other women, like me, build health literacy and take control of their health.

From Breakdown to Breakthrough

I didn’t overhaul my life overnight. I started with small, deliberate steps.

I changed the foods I ate.
I added targeted nutritional support.
I made the difficult decision to leave a job that was draining me.

Gradually, my symptoms began to ease.

Over time, I built a personalized approach to self-care—one rooted in health literacy whole-body nourishment, and balance. I learned how to recognize early warning signs, how to respond, and how to reduce both the frequency and intensity of inflammatory flares.

For the first time in years, I experienced longer stretches of true wellness.

Wellness is not linear.
It requires awareness, curiosity, and a willingness to meet yourself where you are—again and again.

I no longer see health as something to manage, but as a process to understand and support.

How I Help Build Health Literacy for Women

Today, I use everything I’ve learned—through both academic training and personal healing—to help women feel more confident and empowered in their own bodies.

This site focuses on practical strategies to support blood sugar balance, reduce inflammation, and improve long-term wellness.

Many of the resources here are designed to support women managing prediabetes, high blood sugar, and inflammation through sustainable lifestyle changes.

I create health content that is clear, practical, and grounded in real life—because understanding your health shouldn’t feel overwhelming or out of reach.

If you’re navigating chronic symptoms, burnout, or simply trying to better understand what your body is telling you, you’ll find resources here to support your journey.

Why I Do This Work

Because I’ve lived it.

I know what it feels like to search for answers and come up empty.
I know the frustration of trying everything—and still not feeling better.
And I know how powerful the right information can be when it finally clicks.

That experience is what drives my work.

I believe every woman deserves to feel informed, equipped, and in control of her health—not overwhelmed by it.

Thank You for Being Here

I’m glad you’re here.

I hope what you find here helps you take your next step—
with clarity, confidence, and compassion.
